Physics Ph.D. Sponsorship

I'm graduating with Bachelor's degrees in Physics and Applied Math in May. I'd like to start working on a Ph.D. in Physics or Math (or perhaps some other technical field) somewhere down the road, but not immediately after graduation. I know there are a lot of companies out there that will sponsor (or reimburse) their employees for further education, especially M.B.A.'s. My question is, are there companies that would sponsor me to get a Ph.D. in a technical field?

In 20 years, I\'ve never seen a company do this. However, if another reader knows of such a circumstance, please let us all know.

When the profit margins were up, some of the big
companies used to do this. Probably not any more...
