When trying to debunk the theory that there is a STEM shortage, most authors completely lose sight of the big picture. Companies such as Microsoft and Cisco are multinational giants. They need the highest quality talent to compete in the global marketplace, without regard to nationality. This by the way, is the essence of American competitiveness. There "is" a STEM shortage of talent, if they restrict themselves to only American graduates. This is why we need minimal restrictions on foreign graduates coming into the US. People at the lowest levels of seniority and/or productivity will get laid off, no matter if American or foreign. But the best and brightest succeed, and American immigration policies should be encouraging that.
