New posters please choose an appropriate username (or we'll pick one for you)

Your username has to make sense if you saw it in printed form on a name badge at a conference's networking event. That's what we are here -- an online networking "event."

Would your name badge at the ASM meeting show "joesmith76354" or would it show Joe Smith? Would it show "amy_l_r23" or would it show "Amy"? Even if you want to use a fake name (which is fine) please, make it look like a real-world name. Goofy nicknames aren't used here, and neither are those in lower case with a bunch of numbers or underscores. Stick to a username that looks like a name badge, please. And if that's too restrictive, we even let you use initials!

You don't want my choice of username, I'm sure, which is what happens if you use one that doesn't fit the above guidelines.

Thanks, Dave Jensen, Moderator

PS - If you have been "assigned" a username that you don't like, you can modify it in your profile settings on the site. Just ensure that it sticks with the above guidelines. Thanks!

Oddly,

No matter how many times I post this request, the same day, literally one or two posts away from it in our lists of threads, some new poster will come in with the wrong kind of username. Recent new poster, please take note.

Thank you,
