Came across a timely article about performance reviews: the large consulting firm Accenture is doing away with them entirely:

Interestingly, other large companies like Deloitte and Microsoft have taken similar approaches in the recent years. I imagine there are good and bad points to this decision for all parties. But I have to imagine any change like this for a huge company has got to be tense.
