Professional Address???

Postby M.W.S. » Mon Aug 22, 2016 11:04 pm

I am being included as an author on a paper from my postdoc that I recently left on good terms. Currently I am employed by a major biotech company in a completely unrelated field. I need to provide contact information for the publication. Should I give my current work address even though none of the work was completed here or should I use the address of the institution where I performed the work but am no longer associated with?

Thank you!

For author affliations, I had 2 superscripts after my Name, the 1st superscript was the Institution where I did the work (same as my PI), the seconded superscript or (a super scripted star), was my current address (that one of my my post-doc lab).

That's one solution you can try. When in doubt talk to the Journal Editors.

Good luck

You must use the address of the institution where the work was carried out. Your current employer has nothing to do with the work and may or may not want to be associated with it. If you are a corresponding author or are worried about readers being able to find you down the line, you can also include the second affiliation as DX mentioned.

There is a specific way to address that in publications. You will have two symbols or numbers following your name. The first will be your affiliation, which will remain the affiliation where you did the work, the second will be labeled as "current address" and list your current address.

Note that this is different from a double affiliation, as indeed the second one is not liked to the work in this case. That's why it should be "current address" or "present address".
