Hi all,

I have finally got my first interview!!! :)

Im not a native american so this will be my first US style, big-pharma interview (as an organic chemist). Indeed my first REAL job interview (im just finishing up my postdoc)

I was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice. I have to give a presentation, I know I will have one on one interviews, does anyone have any tips on what I should expect.........how much of an interrogation will it be? etc etc

Thanks in advance

Martin

The one-on-one format usually means it is less of an interrogation as compared to a panel interview. Some of the time with each person will be familiarization, "tell me about yourself" kinds of things. The intent is often to see what kind of person you are, how well you express yourself, and your interpersonal skills. Lunch or dinner out will also be a time for them to assess these, so do not totally relax, do not drink much - if at all, watch your table manners - being polite and other etiquette often counts as a plus and bad versions can be a big minus, and relax enough to be friendly - stiffly formal is also not well regarded among Americans.

As far as your talk, the number one rile is make sure it is within the allotted time. Running over gives you a bad impression. Otherwise those presentations are no different than one at an ACS meeting.

Good luck.
