Getting a structural biology traning in an industrial context

Postby Eric » Tue Nov 23, 2004 11:16 am

Hi everybody. I will be finishing my PhD in molecular biology in the next few months and I'm planing my postdoctoral training. I've got a few questions regarding a postdoc in industry and more specifically in protein crystallography.

Here's my background:
B.Sc and M.Sc in Biophysics. (electron-microscopy, AFM, SNOM, spectroscopy).
Afterwards, Ph.D. in Molecular Biology. I wanted to learn the techniques of molecular biology and protein purification in the objective of structural studies. What's really stimulates me is structural biology and PX.
Since I had not the chance to go in the process of solving a structure so far, I'd like to learn how to solve structures and most importantly how try to answer biological questions.

For me, there are plenty of opportunities for postdoc in academy to achieve this goal. Some of them interest me very much.
On the other hand, I'd like to work in industry, but I have the impression that they are looking for post-doc already in the field that can bring something to the company. I want to continue in protein crystallography. Do you think it is possible to get such a training as a postdoc in industry ?
