I've enjoyed a nice work-life balance as an RA for a mid/big biotech in the US but recently switched over to a an position outside of the lab and the workload has increased significantly. Hoping as a poster said, I get more effective and can things can balance out as I do miss my 9-5 days

Moving outside the lab always sounds intriguing for postdocs and those in their educational years, but in reality, it generally INCREASES the amount of time commitment you need for your job, not lessens.

Then, another step is to go work out of your home office for an employer, or for yourself in a small business. Its then that you realize how much more difficult your week becomes, not easier!
