Switch from Plant Science

Postby Shawn Baker » Tue Mar 08, 2005 8:01 pm

It may depend on what you specialized in during your Plant Biology training, but none of my friends from grad school had any trouble switching from Plant Biololgy to other fields. Keep in mind that we all switched at the "post doc" level and have all ended up at Biotech companies - staying in academia may be different. Also, we all had general molecular biology/genetics experience. If your specialty was in field work or tissue culture (for example), the transition may be more difficult.

Please feel free to email me directly if you'd like to discuss this in more detail.
