nature of industry postdoc?

I am interested in how an industry postdoc differs from an academic postdoc. Most industry job descriptions specify that you must have 2-6 years of postdoctoral experience, but some do not. Additionally, some companies advertise a \"postdoctoral fellowship\" which is supposed to have some qualities of an academic postdoc. In the academic situation, I know that a postdoctoral position can be a big change of technique and even subject matter, if you are trying to reposition your career in a certain way. Could an industry postdoc be used this way as well, or are they looking for more of a \"finished product\"?
