Hello everyone,

First of all, I think that this is a great forum and I wish I had looked at it sooner. Thanks to everyone who is spending their time posting advice here. I’m currently in my first post-doc (life science), but as so many others here, I don’t want to stay in academy. I figured I might like working in IP. I networked myself a lunch meeting with a patent agent next week to find out more about the profession. This is not a job interview, rather an opportunity to get a toe in the door, however I’m a bit nervous about it. I tried to read as much as possible about the profession and working my way through some basic patent books, I also looked at some life science patents to get a “feel” for it.
Do you guys have any good advice on what else I could do and how I best use this opportunity to my advantage? Could I ask to “shadow” this person for a day to see what the work is all about? Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks very much
