Guest Host Week . . . Nearly over

Postby Dave Jensen » Mon Feb 27, 2006 1:24 am

Welcome to the AAAS Career Discussion Forum, and to our special Guest Host week.

This week we'll be discussing several topics, with two expert guests who have a lot of experience in a number of career areas. Please, jump into the discussion at any time!

Let me welcome both Dr. Joe DeSimone, distinguished Professor of Chemistry from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill as well as Professor of Chemical Engineering at NC State, and Dr. Avi Spier, Director of Business Development at The Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation. Both of these gentlemen have launched businesses of their own and have offered to visit with the Science Career Discussion Forum for the next five days and answer any questions you might have.

Dr. DeSimone has founded several companies, and yet has opted to stay on the academic track. Dr Spier, who founded the National Postdoc Association while a postdoc, founded a company which later went public and he now works in the large pharmaceutical company environment.

For a profile of Dr. DeSimone, see the link at DeSimone BioSketch.

For a profile of Dr. Spier, see the link at Spier BioSketch.

Have a question for Dr. DeSimone about careers on the tenure track? Ask away, in the Guest Host Thread for this purpose below. Have a question for Dr. Spier about what its like to work in a large pharma company, or in a Business Development job? Ask Away!
