entering the job search

After receiving useful advice and support from this forum, I have made the decision to leave my phd program (org chem) with a master's.
I will be graduating in December, and will likely move to the northeast (where my friends are working in industry). However, I currently live in the midwest, and since I own a house, do not think that I will be able to move until spring time, as my house requires some repairs to make it marketable.

I have a couple of questions: if I stay here unemployed for 4 months or so while I get my house (and life) ready, will this make me less employable when I do move? (I am also searching for local jobs, but there is no guarantee that I will be find a professional position). Might it be better for me to leave immediately and come back to take care of my house when I have a bit more stability?
Also, between my undergrad and grad school, I worked as a technician at Hewlett Packard. I was hired through Volt Technical. I would like to use the company's name on my resume and work history, but how do I state that I was only a temp so that it does not look suspicious that I worked there for only 6 months?
