Is there growth in working as a Clinical Data Manager?

I having been working as a CDM in the academia for the past 2 years.
I have a masters degree in engineering background and have acquired SAS skills on the job.

I am planning to switch to company now.

I have heard that there is not much scope or growth in Data management with all the outsourcing etc.
I am apprehensive about proceeding further in this field because of this reason.
At the same time I don\'t want my 2 years experience to go waste.

I was thinking of Project Management as lateral growth but the requirements don\'t match my current experience. I am not keen in working as a full time SAS programmer because I don\'t want to spend the entire day crunching numbers.
I like working with people and at same time want to keep my programming skills functioning.

I would really appreciate any advice on other areas where I can actually apply the skills I have learnt, if the future of data managers is really as bleak as it seems.
