new career choice

Hi

I am currently interested in a career in planetary sciences and the universe. I have enrolled for my degree in geosciences, the question i ask is, it will take me a few years to complete this degree and was looking for any advice on entering into this line of work at the bottom level while i acquire my degree, thus gaining experience in a given field, as i would not like to gain a degree in geosciences then be told i need 2-3 years experience in a given field. if anyone has any answer they would be most appreciated
