addressing a weakness

The subject of weaknesses comes up during most interviews in some form or another.

During a recent interview, I was asked a behavioral interviewing question that dealt with an area that I feel I am weak in, but have not made real efforts to deal with yet.

The interviewer asked me to describe a time when I had to make an important decision quickly, describing what the situation was and how I made the decision.

I did not have an answer for this question. Because the position involved production engineering responsibilities, this was probably a critical question.

I struggled to answer this question because I have always had trouble making decisions quickly. I am very deliberative, sometimes to the point of "paralysis by analysis."

There are different ways to dealing with weaknesses, and unfortunately, I've chosen avoidance so far. The problem is, if I keep doing this, I'm probably going to really hold myself back.

I was wondering if anyone has a story of how they identified a weakness and what worked for them to address it? I would appreciate any and all pointers!
