Uploading CV online.

Webistes of most of mid and large sized biotech/pharm companies has a career section that ask potential employees to upload or copy/paste their CVs. I wonder how CVs would look like to hiring managers. When constructing CV, we use these bullets, numbers, and right indents and spacing to make CV beautiful and professional. However, will CVs still have same format once you upload or copy/paste them to these companies\' webisites?
Or, should we contruct CV in basic format as possible?
